The new musical film Nine marries song and dance numbers set to a dramatic narrative.
Director Rob Marshall and the creative team behind the Oscar-winning film adaptation of Broadway’s Chicago, united to reinvent Federico Fellini’s 1963 tour de force, 8 1/2. Reminiscent of Bob Fosse’s All that Jazz, Nine weaves together performances from the imaginative mind of fictional film director Guido Contini with the story of his unraveling life.
The film immerses the audience with an indulgent pageantry of illusion, unable to distinguish Guido’s life from his film—the creations of his fanciful mind. But like the Frankenstein story, the creation eventually turns on the creator. Guido is deeply conflicted between the moral compass of his Catholic faith and his indulgent lifestyle, as the characters descend into the pain and destruction of insatiable desire.
The cast of luminaries are Daniel Day-Lewis as Guido, Penélope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman, Sophia Loren, Stacy (Fergie) Ferguson, and Judi Dench.

Fergie and Marion Cotillard look white hot on the NY red carpet of ‘Nine’
Whoever said you can’t wear white past Labour Day clearly didn’t foresee Fergie and Marion Cotillard’s fabulous snowy creations, setting the trend for the holidays, at the premiere of Nine in the Big Apple this December.
The Black Eyed Peas singer mastered the Grecian look in a crisp white one-shoulder Marchesa gown paired with metallic heels.
Meanwhile, Oscar-winning French actress Marion took the wintry hue strapless in a dreamy column Dior dress with an embellished bodice. The brunette beauty added a couple of strands of Chopard black diamonds to complete the look.
In stark contrast to the winter white goddesses however was their Nine co-star, Nicole Kidman, who chose a shoulder-baring black Prada frock with matching peep-toe pumps.

All nine of the cast of Nine made an appearance on Larry King Live Tuesday where they shared — sometimes all of them at a time — the secrets from set. Nine has already been nominated for five Golden Globes, but the public won’t see it worldwide until Christmas day.
Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Fergie, Penélope Cruz, Dame Judi Dench, Daniel Day-Lewis, Sophia Loren and director Rob Marshall were all present — well, Sophia was by video — to discuss how difficult the auditioning process was, who brought their kids to set, how weird love scenes were to shoot, how excited they are about their Golden Globes nominations and of course what they’re plans are for the holidays!
There was some debate amongst the cast over how they were chosen and how they had to audition for their parts.

The movie’s choreographer John DeLuca said, “Keith just watched and had this big smile while holding the baby. It was nice to have little Sunday Rose there.”
Although Keith is a huge country music star, he didn’t offer any advice vocal tips to his wife for her singing role. Rob added to “E!,” “Keith was always there, but he stepped back into the background. He just steps back, which is really nice.”

While Keith Urban is entertaining fans during the solo tour of his native homeland down under this month, he’s also singing the praises of the land he now calls home, where he shares his life with wife Nicole Kidman and baby daughter, Sunday Rose.
“In Nashville, we just jump in a car and drive to wherever we want to go — restaurants, movies. Obviously, we don’t have that situation in Sydney. It changes the dynamic of being here,” Keith tells Australia’s The Age.
Something else that changes the dynamic for Keith is whether or not Nicole is out with him on tour.
“I think I play better. When someone you love — and someone who loves you — is present in what you’re doing, no matter what it is, I think everything elevates a little bit.”

THE Catholic Church has been accused of scaring Hollywood producers into shelving the remaining two films in Philip Pullman’s fantasy trilogy, His Dark Materials.
The American actor Sam Elliott says executives at New Line Cinema halted plans for The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass, despite the ”incredible” commercial success of the first in the trilogy, The Golden Compass.
The film, starring Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig and Eva Green, grossed more than $US360 million ($400 million) worldwide after its Christmas 2007 release. But after a campaign by factions of the church in the US, it took a modest $US85 million there. Bill Donohoe, of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, led the attack, calling on parents to boycott the film, saying it would prompt children to buy Pullman’s novels, which he described as ”atheism for kids”.
