I’ve just come across the first photos of Nic on the set of her new movie Trespass, and added them into the Gallery! They were taken yesterday (I think), in Shreveport, Louisiana. The photos are small and not very good quality, but they’re better than nothing, right?!

Sally from whateverittakes.org has emailed me some information on Nicole’s involvement with this charity. Nicole, among many other celebrities and famous faces, has contributed artwork to the charity, and it is used on various merchandise including clocks, bags, mugs, plates and jewllry. Nicole’s design – of a frizzy haired women with long legs! – can be seen on items including a mouse mat, plate, clutchbag and canvas print. I’ve posted news articles about some of these products before when they were originally available, but they seem to have added some fantastic new items, so read on for more information, and then go and visit their shop to see what takes your fancy!

Typically in these newsless final weeks of August, bloggers look ahead to Oscar season and bemoan the shortage of plausible Best Actress candidates. Not this year, though! Might 2010 be the greatest-ever year for the category? In the past week, Oscarologists Scott Feinberg and Peter Knegt both surveyed the field and found a glut of strong contenders. Already we’ve seen Oscar-quality performances from Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone), Tilda Swinton (I Am Love), and Julianne Moore and Annette Bening (in The Kids Are All Right) — and there are plenty more where those came from.
Other likely candidates include: Lesley Manville (Another Year), Michelle Williams (Blue Valentine), and Naomi Watts (Fair Game) — all performances that have been seen and raved about at festivals.
But they’ll presumably have heavy competition from Anne Hathaway (Love and Other Drugs), Hilary Swank (Conviction), Carey Mulligan (Never Let Me Go), Natalie Portman (Black Swan), Helena Bonham Carter (The King’s Speech), Nicole Kidman (Rabbit Hole), Robin Wright (The Conspirator), Reese Witherspoon (How Do You Know), and Helen Mirren (The Tempest).
And, hey, if any of the above should disappoint, there’s maybe Diane Lane (Secretariat), Jennifer Connelly (What’s Wrong With Virginia), Bryce Dallas Howard (Hereafter), and Diane Keaton (Morning Glory).
(Compare this to last year, when these were our most likely Best Actress contenders heading into September.)
On the other hand, neither Knegt nor Feinberg were able to identify many surefire candidates for Best Supporting Actress, so if things get too competitive in the lead race, an actress can increase her odds by committing category fraud and slumming it in Supporting (which wasn’t really an option in 2010, since Mo’Nique’s victory was a foregone conclusion). Either way, though, we officially have a death match! This year’s Oscars pretty much have to be more exciting than last year’s, right?

I’ve added a bunch of scans to the Gallery, some old, some new, some in English and some foreign – something for everyone! Thanks to Mirik for all of the international/non-English language scans, including a beautiful spread in Alma Magazine, and various film magazines covering Nine. The L’Officiel and Hello magazine additions feature new photos and coverage from Nicole’s appearance in Hong Kong a few months ago where she was promoting Omega. I’ve finally added scans from Nicole’s L’Uomo Vogue feature from earlier this year, which are thanks to the lovely Martina. And finally, Mia has allowed me to use her scans from the August issue of Interiew magazine, in which Nic interviewed her Nine co-star Marion Cotillard. I meant to post that news a few weeks ago, but I guess I never got round to it – sorry! I’ll post the interview here asap though, and you can enjoy the full chat between Nic & Marion by reading the scans
There may be more updates/gallery additions later today, so stay tuned!

Actress Nicole Kidman is the star of the campaign of new shopping carioca Village Mall. The mall, located in Barra da Tijuca, promises to be the new point of luxury in Rio, with Class AAA stores nationally and internationally. The commercial, which lasts for 2 minutes, with the actress arriving in the wonderful city begins to be televised from Tuesday, Aug. 17. Nicole wears a gorgeous Valentino dress for the commercial and it then will be auctioned and all proceeds will revert to charities in need. Legal initiative, is not it?

San Francisco may not seem much like Ernest Hemingway’s Havana or Key West, Fla., right now, but just wait until Hollywood works its magic. And you won’t have to wait long.
HBO Films has agreed to base the production of the new film “Hemingway & Gellhorn” in San Francisco, providing a welcome boost to the local film industry and injecting a little more star power around town, city officials said Wednesday.
The film, starring Clive Owen as Hemingway and Nicole Kidman as war correspondent Martha Gellhorn, examines the duo’s tumultuous romance and five-year marriage. Much of the film is set against the backdrop of the Spanish Civil War, as well as depicting Shanghai, Havana and Key West. Shooting is expected to start in February.
None of the film is set in San Francisco, but director Philip Kaufman said the city’s historic buildings and varied topography make it ideal to shoot more intimate scenes depicting World War II-era locales, said Jennifer Matz from the mayor’s economic development office.
