Nicole Kidman: ‘I’d wake up sobbing, shaken to the bone’
Nicole Kidman’s latest role took her to far darker emotional territory than she expected.
It takes a lot to get Nicole Kidman out of Tennessee these days. The Oscar-winning actress has settled happily into American rural life and it took a considerable effort by her husband, country singer Keith Urban, to persuade her to leave home and their two-year-old daughter, Sunday Rose, for a month to produce and star in the low-budget Rabbit Hole.
“Keith was pushing me to leave the nest. He told me I shouldn’t give up everything for the family,” she says, talking during a recent visit to Los Angeles. “And I’m so glad he did because every now and then we all need a bit of a push to get out of our comfort zone.”
Her performance as a grieving mother whose son has been killed in a road accident has already earned her a Golden Globe nomination, with talk of Oscar recognition to follow.
It has also, she says, had an indelible effect on her. “I haven’t suffered through anything like this mother did but I understand the feeling of being so remote and so far from happiness that you can be driving and you look into another car and see somebody laughing and smiling and you think: ‘Will I ever, ever know that again?’

I’ve come across a few articles recently that have been asking why Nicole is not featured in the trailer, poster or press items for Just Go With It. The answer to the question is quite obvious, as it clarified by a Sony Pictures spokesperson:
A spokesman for Sony Pictures, however, which is releasing “Just Go With It,” said Ms. Kidman’s role is a “fun, smaller one” and “a true treat of the movie we are trying to keep a surprise.”

A pregnant Natalie Portman mentioned picking up some advice from Nicole and Amy Adams at the recent Hollywood Reporter Roundtable discussion they all took part in a few months ago:
But she’s also picking up A-list advice, such as at a recent Hollywood meet-and-greet.
“The thing that was nice was hearing how like Amy Adams and Nicole Kidman were both talking about how they choose roles so differently (now),” Portman says. “You do have to really protect your emotional resources in a different way. But this I will find out, I’m sure.”

New parents NICOLE KIDMAN and KEITH URBAN have paid tribute to the “spirit” of their fellow Australians following the devastating floods in Queensland earlier this month (Jan11).
The state was plunged into a state of emergency as heavy rain caused massive flooding throughout the region – at least 25 people have died and thousands of residents have been forced to flee their homes.
Kidman and Urban, who welcomed new daughter Faith Margaret via surrogate last month (Dec10), have family ties in the area and they have now spoken of their pride in their country’s reaction in the wake of the disaster.
The actress tells Sydney’s Daily Telegraph, “It’s the amazing spirit of people when something like this hits. Every day we followed it and we were seeking it out.”
While Urban adds, “I had people texting me from all over the States saying, ‘Is your family okay?’ They’re all alright, thank goodness. I was there for the 1974 floods and I remember it so vividly. It was surreal to see the same images again.”

Nicole Kidman has appeared on the cover of The Australian Women’s Weekly and told the magazine she wants her marriage to Keith Urban to last a lifetime.
Nicole, who has just had a second child with Keith via a surrogate, said she wouldn’t have gotten married if she thought there could be a divorce, like what happened when she split with Tom Cruise.
She said, ‘I’m married now to the person who, you know, ’til death do us part.
‘I wouldn’t have gotten married again if I didn’t feel like that was the case with us.
‘And unless some hideously terrible thing happened, that’s what we have both pledged to each other, and there’s a great deal of comfort in that.’
Nicole, 43, refused to speak to the mag about Isabella and Connor, the children she adopted with Tom Cruise, and who chose to stay with him after their split.
‘Yeah, but it’s their life, and it’s not to be discussed publicly.
‘I’ve never discussed any of that publicly.
‘Except to say that I absolutely love them.’

Saturday brought the annual BAFTA/LA tea party, a great afternoon at the Four Seasons Hotel sponsored by Bombay Sapphire–and a lot of it was going around while stars like Nicole Kidman, Michelle Williams, Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter, Guy Pearce, Barbara Hershey, Brenda Vaccaro, Jeff Bridges, Ben Affleck, Jackie Bisset, Jeremy Renner, Melissa Leo, composer Alexandre Desplat, Andrew Garfield, and so on.
Of course, in that group, Nicole Kidman got the most attention. She’s headed to an Oscar nomination for ”Rabbit Hole,” a tremendous performance and maybe her best work in years (which is saying something). Kidman produced the movie after she optioned the Broadway play, and made the project come together. She was on her own yesterday, leaving husband Keith Urban home with toddler daughter Sunday Rose.
Some of the guests wound up coming late–Newsweek magazine (still in business, who knew?) convinced a bunch of nominees–Firth, James Franco, Kidman etc–to sit for a roundtable discussion that they also filmed–I don’t know if it’s for the Newsweek website, the Daily Beast, or Harman Kardon.
“Those roundtables are like group therapy,” Nicole said with a laugh.
And BAFTA? Very high on “The King’s Speech,” of course.

‘The Insider”s Jill Martin Honors Globes Style
Before the Golden Globes were handed out, Jill Martin conducted her own little awards ceremony, recognizing celebs for their chic factor on the Golden Globes red carpet.
“Modern Family” beauty Sofia Vergara, stunning in Vera Wang, was awarded Best Curves. “Oh yay! Oh my God, I am so glad, I have always wanted to have my curves here, [at] the Golden Globes,” going on to joke, “Well, I’ve always had my ‘Golden Globes,’ but, you know, it’s fantastic!”
Less than 24 hours before they announced the birth of their second child together, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban were named Best Red Carpet Duo. “Awww,” Nicole said, while Keith added, “Thank you so much!” Nicole questioned jokingly, “Do you give that to everyone?” but when Jill assured her that they were in fact the duo of the night, Nicole stated, “Okay, we’ll take it!” before planting a kiss on her hubby’s cheek. On Monday, the couple announced they had welcomed a second daughter together, Faith Margaret, who arrived via gestational surrogate back in December.
There were two winners for Best Hair. ‘Black Swan’ star Mila Kunis, in Vera Wang, snagged the honor for her up ‘do. She told Jill that it took two hours to do her hair for the event. Meanwhile Chris Noth also had the Best Hair. He told Jill, “And it’s all mine! I don’t care what they say on the internet — it is not a wig!”
