Nicole Kidman raced through the West End seeing as many hit shows as she possibly could, but she revealed to me that her children have put their foot down about her returning to the stage.
Nicole said that whenever she's in London, she talks with David Hare, Stephen Daldry, Trevor Nunn and Harvey Weinstein about film and theatre projects.
But the Oscar-winning actress, currently to be seen in the tense thriller The Interpreter, told me: 'At the moment, with my kids, it's hard to pick up and move to another country for a long period of time - and to ask them to do it.
'They are at an age now where they put their foot down and say "No",' she said with a laugh, stamping her foot in mock anger.
'When they were five it was less complicated,' she said.
'Isabella is 12 now but she was much younger when I did The Blue Room [in London in 1998], and I'd simply say: "Let's go and do this," and we would.
'Now, my daughter's almost a teenager and I don't have that control any more.'
Nicole also confessed that she'd be nervous about returning to the stage.
'I'd be scared to get back up there. I quite like being out there in the dark, in the audience, with a bunch of other people, being transported.'
She said she's drawn to good writing in the theatre and was keen to catch Don Carlos, Mary Poppins and Billy Elliot - which is directed by Daldry, the man who directed her in the film The Hours, for which she won an Oscar. After our chat, she took a private plane to New York for the opening of The Interpreter. Soon she will portray the photographer Diane Arbus in Fur, and then she'll spend three weeks working with Kar Wai Wong on The Lady From Shanghai.
'He's going to try to shoot it very fast,' she said, 'but he's famous for taking years, so let's wait and see.'
Nicole told me that she's enjoying life, making what she calls 'small art films' and the odd Hollywood picture which allows her the chance to experiment.
'People think I spend my life in a sexy dress going to premieres. I don't! I do that a few times a year. I make two or so films a year and promote them. 'I have my kids, and most of the time I am able to cut the whole showbiz thing off and enjoy that private family side.'
Then she said something that intrigued me.
'Luckily for me, I don't have any dark secrets and things I need to keep hidden and so I'm able to be pretty much upfront about things.
'I'd hate to be in a position where you have to run around and hide something. I don't, so it's quite easy for me.'
I wonder if Tom Cruise will get a copy of this story?
