David Hare’s British spy film “Page Eight” will serve as closing-night film of the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival, which also announced a new slate of galas and special presentations on Tuesday, including the Winnie Mandela biopic “Winnie,” Marc Forster’s “Machine Gun Preacher” and Joel Schumacher’s home-invasion drama “Trespass,” with Nicole Kidman and Nicolas Cage.
The new galas and special presentations added more than two dozen notable films to a TIFF lineup that was already notably strong and deep, while the festival also announced several dozen more additions to its more adventurous sidebars.
TIFF special presentations will include Whit Stillman’s “Damsels in Distress,” Andrea Arnold’s “Wuthering Heights,” Gianni Amelio’s Camus adaptation “The First Man,” Agnieszka Holland’s “In Darkness,” Julia Leigh’s controversial Cannes entry “Sleeping Beauty,” and “Violet & Daisy,” the directorial debut from “Precious” screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher.
The festival also announced a number of additions to other programs:
Dermot Mulroney has joined the cast of Stoker, the Fox Searchlight thriller written by former Prison Break star Wentworth Miller.
Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman, Matthew Goode and Jacki Weaver make up the ensemble cast of the pic, which begins lensing later this month in Nashville with Chan-wook Park in the director’s chair.
The story centers on a young woman (Wasikowska) who loses her father and must contend with a mysterious uncle (Goode). Mulroney is playing the woman’s father.
Mulroney will be hitting movie threaters in three releases in as many months. He stars with Hope Davis in the black comedy The Family Tree, which opens August 26, and is a villain to Taylor Lautner’s hero in Abduction, which Lionsgate opens September 23. He also appears in J. Edgar, the Clint Eastwood drama starring Leonardo DiCaprio, which bows October 21.
On top that are six films in the can – including the Drew Barrymore movie Everyboydy Loves Whales and The Grey, directed by Joe Carnahan and starring Liam Neeson – giving the ICM-repped Mulroney the potential to be in theaters nine times in the next year.
Nic is working hard on the set of The Paperboy, and was photographed in full make-up on set yesterday in New Orleans. Her look here reminds me a bit of Suzanne Stone in To Die For!
As I have probably mentioned several times over the last few months, I’m slowly working on re-vamping our content. Everything is going to be moved over to a new ‘system’ (the same as this news uses. It will make no difference to you, don’t worry!), and will be drastically updated, and many new features are planned. I’ve started off easy with the Site and Web sections.
Many of these pages probably won’t interest you, but in the Site section let me point out the Contribute and Site Search pages. I’m always on the lookout for new-old things we don’t already have here, and the Contribute page lists some of those specific things – I would be so grateful if you could take a look at that page and see if you are able to help out in any way. I love making this site more comprehensive, and I also love, as do all of you I imagine, discovering Nicole photos/videos/information/etc. we don’t already have. As for the Site Search page, the main reason why I’m converting the content to this new system is so that you can search this site more easily. This page allows you to browse our news archives, find a list of site pages (which are a work in progress!), and type in words to search for throughout this site. This page is there to help if you’re looking for something! Most of the content is still on the old system, but once everything is converted searching fully will be possible.
In the Web section, I’ve created a page to list Nicole’s official spots around the web, and updated our Affiliates so you can find more fun fansites around the web.
Finally for now, I’ve created a Filmography page for The Paperboy. I will add to this page when I have more time to research the book and character more.
Next up for content updates will be our About Nicole’s Magic and Previous Layouts pages, as well as moving on to re-vamp the Interact section.
Prepare for another WOW – Nic was photographed on the set of The Paperboy again yesterday, wearing a short skirt and long shirt, and showing off that big bleached blonde wig. Nicole looks amazing! Pics have been added to the Gallery.

Image Entertainment have revealed that they will release on Blu-ray award winning director Gus Van Sant’s To Die For (1995), starring Nicole Kidman, Matt Dillon, Joaquin Phoenix, and Casey Affleck. Technical specs and region coding status for this release are unknown at the moment, but the preliminary release date set by the distributor is November 8th.
In 1996, To Die For won Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy/Musical (Nicole Kidman).
Suzanne Stone (Nicole Kidman) has always dreamed of being on TV and she’s dead-set on making that dream come true. But there is just one obstacle: Larry Maretto, her husband (Matt Dillon). So, Suzanne convinces a love-struck teenager (Joaquin Phoenix) to get Larry out of the way for good.

A month ago it was reported Nicole was to join a new film called The Paperboy, and today it is official, as we have the first photos of her on the set! Nicole was photographed on the set in New Orleans yesterday, wearing a green waitress-style dress with bleached blonde hair. She looks so different, and I have to say that just these photos of her makes me even more intrigued about this film!
The film plot reads as follows:
Paperboy centers on a reporter and his brother who investigate the events surrounding a murder in order to exonerate a man on death row. Kidman will play a woman with a dark side who writes letters to men on death row. She brings the case to the attention of the reporter, developing a relationship with him.
Matthew McConaughey and Zac Efron also star. Since the first news of Nicole’s involvement broke, there have been a few cast changes – John Cusack has replaced Tobey Maguire as the condemned prisoner, director Lee Daniels has cast singer Maxwell in a role, and British actor David Oyelowo has also come on board. Ewan McGregor says working on ‘Moulin Rouge!’ was one of the most “amazing” experiences of his career.
The 40-year-old actor starred with Nicole Kidman in Baz Luhrman’s musical drama and he admits he had an “unbelievable” time making the film and hanging out with his co-stars.
He said: “‘Moulin Rouge!’ was an amazing experience. Just walking onto that huge set, with that colour and the music and dancing girls and the dancing boys.
“And then getting to play the f***ing lead in it and sing your intentions. It was just unbelievable.
On Wednesday evening, Nic attended the Cinema Society Screening of Snow Flower And The Secret Fan, a new film produced by Nicole’s good friend Wendi Murdoch and featuring a cameo from Hugh Jackman. Nic looks gorgeous in a red fitted Elie Saab dress, with nude Jimmy Choo shoes, a plum coloured L’Wren Scott clutch, and jewellry by Cathy Waterman.
In 19th-century China, seven year old girls Snow Flower and Lily are matched as laotong – or “old sames” – bound together for eternity. In a parallel story in present day Shanghai, the laotong’s descendants, Nina and Sophia, struggle to maintain the intimacy of their own childhood friendship in the face of demanding careers, complicated love lives, and a relentlessly evolving Shanghai. Drawing on the lessons of the past, the two modern women must understand the story of their ancestral connection, hidden from them in the folds of the antique white silk fan, or risk losing one another forever.
As expected, Nicole attended the BAFTAs Brits To Watch Event in Los Angeles last night, a highly publicised event which was also attended by Prince William and Kate Middleton! Nic looked stunning in a light blue/green sequinned floor length Elie Saab Couture gown, with Manolo Blahnik heels, Cathy Waterman jewellry, and a Ferragamo clutch. She waved to fans outside the event, and posed on the red carpet with Mary Louise Parker (fact fans, you may be interested to see that in some of the photos with Mary Louise Parker, you can see Nine director Rob Marshall in the background behind them).
Inside the gala, Nicole seemed to be having a very animated conversation with Prince William, and enjoyed a chat with Kate, too! It’s wonderful seeing Nic with these two … especially with Kate, as, in my opinion, Nicole and Kate Middleton are the definition of class and elegance. And proving yet again that she really IS Hollywood royalty, Nicole was given the honour of sitting at the ‘top table’ with the two Royals, alongside Barbara Streisand and James Brolin, and various studio executives. Quite an honour!
