Hemingway & Gellhorn airs tonight in the UK on Sky Atlantic at 9pm – tune in if you can!! It will air again this coming Wednesday at 10pm.

Hollywood royalty is heading to Sky Atlantic HD, as HBO Films’ Hemingway & Gellhorn will air exclusively to the channel in December.

Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner Clive Owen will team up with Academy Award and three-time Golden Globe winner Nicole Kidman to star in the title roles of Hemingway & Gellhorn, under the direction of fellow Academy Award nominee Philip Kaufman.

Hemingway & Gellhorn tells the story of one of the greatest romances of the last century – the passionate love affair and tumultuous marriage of literary master Ernest Hemingway and trailblazing war correspondent Martha Gelhorn – as it follows the adventurous writers through the Spanish Civil War and beyond.

The combined magnetism of this incredible couple ushered them into social circles that included the elite of Hollywood, the aristocracy of the literary world and the First Family of the United States. As witnesses to history, they covered the great conflicts of their time, but the war they couldn’t survive was the one between themselves.

Here’s another rare magazine treat from the 90′s – albeit a shorter read this time. This scan is from the January 1995 issue of Women’s Weekly, and in the short interview Nic talks about her body, diet and fitness regime. Props to our Aussie friend April for the scan – we’re super grateful for all of her contributions!

It features a ‘report’ on Nicole and Tom’s recent trip Down Under and has some candid shots of them out and about there. The new January 2013 issue of UK magazine Easy Living has a short feature on Nicole within its pages, to promote the airing of Hemingway & Gellhorn this month here in the UK. There is a short interview (not sure if it’s new, maybe someone could enlighten me!) and a nice pic from the W magazine photoshoot from earlier this year. Here are the scans for you:

From ‘white trash’ to white gloves — Nicole Kidman on playing Charlotte in ‘The Paperboy’ and Grace Kelly in ‘Grace of Monaco’

“Precious” made Nicole Kidman do it! The passionate redhead saw Lee Daniels’s movie about an abused overweight Harlem teenager who overcomes adversity — and some really crazy TV tossing — and felt she had to work with the notoriously nutty director in “The Paperboy.” The Oscar winner for playing the veddy, veddy British Virginia Woolf in “The Hours” took on the role of the oversexed, inmate-loving Southerner Charlotte. All in the name of art!

Kidman, who is courting supporting-actress awards for a role that had her (spoiler alert!) peeing on Zac Efron, talked to Yahoo! Movies from Brussels, where she plays Grace Kelly in “Grace of Monaco.” Talk about going from white trash to white gloves! When asked if co-star Efron, who parades around in his underwear throughout “The Paperboy,” was the movie’s sex object, Kidman’s voice rises: “I thought I was!”

Thelma Adams: How did director Lee Daniels sell you on this role?

Nicole Kidman: They sent me the script overnight, and because I’d seen “Precious,” I read it immediately. Lee didn’t have to sell me on it at all. It was something so different from what I’ve done. As an actor that’s the territory I wanted to tap into, particularly as I get older. I really want to go to different places artistically. I will not say no to a director.

TA: And in “The Paperboy,” you play a girl who, like the song says, just can’t say no.

NK: I will not censor myself through my own inhibitions. I’d rather not do the piece. I’ve turned things down that Lars von Trier would offer me because I would not be able to go there right now. As I get older, my barometer for what I consider daring gets broader. It’s not about doing something to be shocking. I found this woman fascinating. Charlotte chooses to be with men in prison. Out of my research meeting similar women came her character’s psychology.

SAG Awards 2013: Nicole Kidman in ‘The Paperboy’ still shocking

Among the biggest surprises in the Screen Actors Guild nominations Wednesday morning was Nicole Kidman’s best supporting actress nod for the little-seen movie “The Paperboy.” In the film, set in late-1960s Florida, Kidman plays Charlotte Bless, a mess of short skirts, tight pants, tall hair and smudgy eyeliner, who becomes involved in a dangerous romantic entanglement with a man jailed for murder (John Cusack).

Kidman has long been notable for her bold choices in roles. But her trashy turn in “The Paperboy” seems particularly at odds with her image both as a fashion icon and a dedicated wife and mother living a quiet life outside Nashville. It’s also a significant contrast with her next project — she’s currently filming a movie in which she plays Grace Kelly.

“The Paperboy” is an adaptation of the 1995 novel by Pete Dexter, written for the screen and directed by Lee Daniels as a follow-up to his award-winning “Precious.” After its debut at the Cannes Film Festival in May, “The Paperboy” grossed less than $1 million since its U.S. release in early October and holds a rather shockingly low 39% fresh score on the Rotten Tomatoes review index site.

Another day, another two major award nominations for Nicole! The Golden Globe Award nominations were announced a couple of hours ago, and Nicole received a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress In A Mini-series or Motion Picture Made for Television for Hemingway and Gellhorn, and also – most surprisingly – for Best Performance by an Actress In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for The Paperboy! This is more extremely exciting news for Nicole, and us, and we send her a big congratulations!

The Golden Globe Awards will take place on Sunday January 13th, and will be televised live on NBC.

While Oscar voters may be slightly more conservative in their tastes – and Charlotte Bless is not conservative! – she has the two main precursor nominations now, so we will have to cross our fingers and wait and see until the morning of January 15th.

Her husband Keith Urban also received a nomination in the Best Original Song category for co-writing ‘For You’ with Monty Powell from the film Act Of Valour. His reaction statement included mention of Nicole’s nominations:

Keith Urban: “The most rewarding gift for me as a songwriter is knowing that the song has somehow made a connection. I’ve been fortunate and moved to hear first hand how it has impacted others’ lives. For that, and for this nomination, I’m so very grateful and honored. To wake up to this news, as well as to Nic’s two nominations, is absolutely beautiful. What a way to start the day!!!!!”

Well this came as a surprise and a half! The Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations were announced today, and Nicole is nominated not once, but twice! She is nominated in the Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries for Hemingway & Gellhorn, but the real surprise is her inclusion in the list for Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for The Paperboy. This is a fantastic achievement, so a big congratulations goes to Nic!! It gives her Oscar campaign a massive boost. Golden Globe nominations are announced tomorrow, so we’ll see how much the hype has grown then.

Last weekend Nicole connected to film critic David Poland by Skype to give an interview promoting The Paperboy in Poland’s DP/30 interview series. She was talking from Belgium, where she is shooting Grace Of Monaco.
