This post was meant to come a few days ago, but here it is now, better late than never. It’s time to look back at Nicole’s 2010.
2010 has been a big year, professionally, for Nicole! Her year started off at award ceremonies celebrating Nine (despite it not receiving great reviews), and ended on a major career high with the success of Rabbit Hole. Read on for my choices for favourites of 2010, and then add your own by posting a comment below!
Best News
The Best Nicole News of 2010 is undoubtedly the extraordinary reviews she has been receiving for Rabbit Hole, and how positively the film has been received. What makes it even better it’s that it happened within a few short months – from September when it premiere in Toronto, it’s taken off at an incredible rate! It’s also been exciting to hear that Nicole may be heading back to the stage, to star in Sweet Bird Of Youth, late in 2011. I also loved seeing her SING a tribute on stage for the wonderful Simon Baker at the G’Day USA event, something which shocked fans as we know how shy Nicole is! A more general favourite thing from 2010 for me, was seeing Nicole out promoting Nine with Penelope Cruz, the divine Marion Cotillard and another of my favourite actresses, Kate Hudson – seeing them all on stage together at Screen Actors Guild Awards was certainly a special moment … and the bunny ears the three did on Penelope Cruz backstage was hilarious!
Photoshoot
We’ve had a few photoshoots this year, although most have been taken at various events rather than being full-on fashion photoshoots. Nicole looked relaxed in a portrait session taken against the backdrop of Hong Kong when she visited to promote Omega, and we loved seeing her pose with her Rabbit Hole co-stars for portraits at Toronto. My favourite photoshoot of 2010, though, was our Session #006, taken in early December during the Rabbit Hole promotion. She looked natural, happy and healthy. Special mention also goes to the Hollywood Reporter Actress Roundtable photoshoot, in which we saw Nicole pose alongside Annette Bening, Natalie Portman, Amy Adams (who could be Nicole’s sister!), among others.
Red Carpet Look
» 2010 Award Ceremonies
» 2010 Premieres
» 2010 Events
Nicole has had some hits and misses on the red carpet this year. She admits that she is not as interested in fashion as she used to be, and that she has less time to think about it these days, because she has a young child! She prefers “simple chic” these days, and makes decisions about what to wear very quickly. Whereas in previous years Nicole has stuck faithfully with one designer, this year she has mixed it up more, and has been seen in big name designers such as Lanvin, Nina Ricci and Prada, as well as lesser known designers including Clements Ribeiro. As well as wearing a few creations by her good friend L’Wren Scott.
Picking a favourite outfit of the year is hard, but my choice would be the stunning white/cream Lanvin Resort 2010 dress Nicole wore at the Launch of Omega’s ‘Ladymatic’ in Beijing, in October. The dress was gorgeous, and made Nicole look like some kind of Greek goddess, accentuating her height and figure in a way that we haven’t seen for a while. Her hair and make-up were just as flattering and perfect. Other favourites from this year would be the short and sexy Nina Ricci dress at Omega’s ‘A Night With The Stars’ Charity Gala, the classy and understated deep navy Prada dress at the Toronto Film Festival premiere of Rabbit Hole, and the shimmery hippy-esque Oscar de la Renta dress at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, a look that was something different for Nicole, and very popular with fans.
Project
Nicole’s only had one cinema release this year, but it’s not like we’d choose anything else anyway! Rabbit Hole received a very limited release in the US on December 17th, and is set to expand early in 2011.
Interview & Quote
Many a wise word has come from Nicole Kidman! Nicole spoke in great depth about how she developed Rabbit Hole, and the process she went through to get it made and to play the character of Becca. Personally I found it very interesting to read about her experiences as not just an actor on this movie, but as a producer, and on a project that was as important to her as this one. So it’s hard to pick just one quote or interview! Backstage.com and New York Times had great interviews, the latter being with Rabbit Hole director John Cameron Mitchell too.
A non Rabbit Hole related quote that does stick out, though, is from the CNN Big Stars, Big Giving interview:
“I don’t know whether you say you relate, but I certainly feel. And it brings me to my knees. It’s my duty, and it’s honour to do the work. “
She said it with genuineness and humbleness you could tell how much it means to her.
Magazine Cover
Nicole only graced the cover of 2 magazines this year – the Hollywood Reporter and L’Uomo Vogue. L’Uomo Vogue just edges ahead as my favourite, because it showed the sexy side of Nicole that we hadn’t seen for a quite a long time!
Magazine Feature
Again, we only had a few of big, new magazine features in 2010, two of which were L’Uomo Vogue and The Hollywood Reporter. Italian fans were in luck this year with a second new spread in an Italian publication, Italian Vogue. And various international editions of Hello magazine, and it’s sister publications, had big reports with a new photoshoot and spread from Nicole’s trip to Hong Kong for Omega. Italian Vogue was my favourite magazine feature of the year – 20 whole pages of stunning black and white glossy photos of Nicole was such a treat! She looked incredible in the photoshoot, and it came with a short new interview, albeit in Italian.
