In recognition of our 60th Anniversary Benefit Dinner, Mayor Bloomberg is to proclaim November 12, 2008, in honor of the Association. The Association is pleased to announce that many business leaders of New York’s financial community and major corporations have agreed to serve as Dinner Chairs, including Lead Benefactor John Hess, Chairman & CEO of Hess Corporation, and Platinum Dinner Chair Kevin Sharer, Chairman & CEO of Amgen Inc. In addition, many dignitaries have also accepted to serve as Honorary Chairs, including The Hon. Paul Volcker and Wendy Turnbull, MBE. We are planning an extraordinary evening and have invited special guests to celebrate this landmark anniversary. Among our special guests are Director Baz Luhrmann, Nicole Kidman, and Hugh Jackman from the upcoming movie “Australia,” which is premiering in New York in November.
Proceeds from the Dinner support the American Australian Association and its Education Fund. The Education Fund is devoted to providing educational fellowships in the United States and Australia. To date, sixty three outstanding Fellows have received awards totaling over $1.5 million. The Benefit Dinner remains the largest source of funding for the education program – the largest privately funded source of scholarship funding available between Australia and the United States.
