Hollywood veteran SHIRLEY MACLAINE has jumped to the defence of co-stars CAMERON DIAZ and JENNIFER ANISTON in their war on the paparazzi, insisting invasive journalists and snappers should be jailed.
The screen legend, has recently worked with both leading actresses and she admits she’s horrified by what she has to put up with at the hands of the media.
She says, “They belong in the slammer… They pay these guys so much money that they really can put microphones under beds and tables – to spy on us.
“Then they get a story that’s got an ounce of truth in it, and Time magazine sits up and Newsweek and the rest of them and, before you know it, they’re in the psychology of `You know, they might have something there.’

TMZ staffers spotted Nicole Kidman this afternoon in the casino at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas, sporting what appeared to be an enormous engagement ring.
The former Mrs. Cruise sat alone at the blackjack table as she played out an impressive pile of chips, stacked almost a half-foot high. She was playing at a no-limit blackjack table. Her chips ranged between $25 and $500 each.
Nicole has been linked romatically to country crooner Keith Urban — who is also in Vegas for the Radio Music Awards tomorrow night.
The people in the casino definitely noticed Nicole but left her alone. There were two other players at Nicole’s table. They had friendly interaction as they gambled away.
As if she needs the extra bucks, Nicole appeared to be winning, possibly winning big. Indeed, she had a winning smile on her face as the dealer drew the cards.
Nicole was dressed casually, wearing jeans and a black sweater. It appeared she wore little, if any, make-up. TMZ staffers say she looked “amazing.”

Hollywood hardman RUSSELL CROWE insists his friend NICOLE KIDMAN is smitten with country singer KEITH URBAN.
The MOULIN ROUGE! actress and New Zealand-born Urban reportedly got engaged over the US Thanksgiving weekend (24-27NOV05) in Nashville, Tennessee, where they celebrated the holiday with both their parents.
He says, “I’ve spoken to Nicole a couple of times recently and it was clear she’s enjoying great happiness right now.
“Hanging out with Keith is giving her a lot of joy and I’m happy for her.”
But Crowe is concerned the media frenzy surrounding the 38-year-olds’ relationship could bring it to a premature end – something he experienced with his PROOF OF LIFE co-star MEG RYAN in 2000.
He adds, “A relationship under that microscope doesn’t get the chance to evolve.
“It happened to me some years back. My summer was ruined as we were never left alone.”

Nicole Kidman’s aides have fired back at reports the Aussie actress will be Mrs. Keith Urban by the time 2006 begins by ruling out rumors of a tropical wedding. The Moulin Rouge! star and her country singer boyfriend are reportedly planning a New Year’s Eve beach wedding in Fiji – something Kidman’s publicists are keen to dispel, stating: “There’s no truth in this.” And they’re using the latest marriage rumors to blast other reports that Kidman is pregnant, adding, “Nicole is 100 percent not pregnant.”

NO, they are not the United Nations Awards, nor are they the Australian of the Year Awards – these are significantly more important.
It’s that time of year where you get to choose who really deserves the honor and the glory of winning a Sydney Confidential People’s Choice Award – otherwise known as the Choicies.
Yesterday you voted on the Man of the Year Choicie and celebrities around Australia are fretting over the results.
Today we bring you the nominations for Woman of the Year, followed tomorrow by Newcomer of the Year, Best Visiting Celebrity of the Year and on Saturday, the big one, the coveted Gold Choicie for Celebrity of the Year.
Vote using the form at the bottom of this page. The results of all five categories will be revealed next Monday (19th).

Kate Moss’s troubles have failed to dent her image as number one fashion icon – she has been named best-dressed woman of 2005.
The 31-year-old supermodel lost lucrative contracts after being pictured snorting cocaine in a scandal which threatened to wreck her career.
But being voted number one in the poll of the world’s most stylish individuals means Croydon-born Moss has lost none of her appeal.
Sienna Miller, 23, who sparked the trend for hippy chic and has been dubbed Moss’s fashion rival, came third in the first annual survey for Grazia magazine.
Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson, 21, a fan of Fifties-style glamour, was second. Victoria Beckham, who has forged a career in fashion since the end of her girl-band chart-topping years, only came 10th.

Nicole Kidman is set to marry Keith Urban next spring, according to the Daily Star today.
The pair are planning a low-key ceremony on the beaches of the US Virgin Islands.
A source revealed, “Nicole and Keith are very happy together and are planning to wed as soon as possible. They are both busy with work commitments but are hoping to marry in the spring.
“Nicole and Keith have both been to the Virgin Islands and have fallen in love with the place. And Nicole’s two adopted children Isabella and Connor will attend the event but she doesn’t want any fuss. It will be a chic but simple affair.”
Naomi Watts, a friend of Nicole’s, explained, “Nicole is getting on with it. We have both been busy but we do catch up as often as possible. And yes I can confirm she is very happy.”

Question: Now you’ve talked about the casting of Uma Thurman but in fact she was not your first choice for that role, and that in fact Nicole Kidman was all set to do it. What do you think she would have brought to it differently than Uma and what was it about her that kind of interested you initially?
Stroman: Well, you know, she was initially thought of but I think it was sort of the rehearsal time and I think she was booked with something else in Australia and then that didn’t work out or something. I don’t quite remember the story but in fact, you know, Uma was great. She brought a sweetness to it. She is 6′ 4″ in heels, she’s really Swedish, she loved the physicality of learning how to sing and dance and, you know, slide across a desk and… some things are meant to be. Some things worked out. And hopefully I’ll get to do a project with Nicole someday.
